Fictional narratives in the age of media convergence: continuities and deviations of the modernist aesthetic paradigm
Description:
Literature and cinema are going through intense transformations due to digital technologies and the broad expansion of the market media culture that, in dissolving the borders between high and low culture, challenges the aesthetic paradigms of modernity. Considering this context, the project focuses on the analysis of the phenomenon of fictional narratives sliding through diverse devices and means, that is, in the continuous recycling process of plots that circulate through different platforms. The research reflects on the alteration in cultural hierarchy caused by the intensification, in the electronic age, of this interchange movement, regarding both literature, whose prestige has always been strictly related to the aura of the book platform, and cinema, given the multiplication of transmedia narratives, whose content unfolds in films broadcasted in cinema theatres, videogames, comic books, and television series.
